Grouping Ride Rules / Observances:

Grouping motorcycle riding is a great experience when mutual sense, respect for other riders, and safety prevail. Please review these riding rules and tips for your personal and grouping riding safety.

  • Do non mix booze and motorcycle riding at whatever time, especially when riding in a group.
  • No attitudes while with the group. A multifariousness of people ride and motorcyclists are very various. We simply share the dear of riding.
  • Top-off your gas tank before you begin a ride. Bikes with small-scale gas tanks have to stop more often. Decide before you begin, when and where you volition stop.
  • Exercise a personal and wheel safety check before beginning a ride. Bikes should e'er be in good running condition before riding.
  • Riders should wear middle protection, and a DOT/Snell certified helmet. This is law in many states.

Common Hand Signals

Group Riding:

Riders who choose to ride in a group must practise just that, ride with the group. If a navigational fault is made (e.yard., missed plow or get out), keep with the group until the error tin be safely corrected. It is recommended to have Road Captain(due south) travel the route prior to a run, thus, avoiding navigation mistakes.

As in the war machine, formation is mandatory. A staggered formation is the typical ride arrangement. Maintain approximately ane second between the bike to your left or right and two seconds between you and the cycle straight in front end of yous. If a vehicle wants to intermission through the group on a multi-lane road, give them space to safely do so. Close formation in one case the vehicle exits the lane. If the vehicle does non move, cautiously and carefully pass to reform. Bikers do not own the road so be considerate of other vehicles. Give them space.

Novice and inexperienced riders should ride in the eye of the group until they are comfy riding in a grouping. Experienced riders should too be the rear of the group to maintain lodge.

Know the hand signals and pay attention to them. Signals are passed back by every rider so that everyone is informed. Maintain a steady pace with every bit few (dramatic) speed changes or sudden moves as possible. Changing lanes on a thruway should exist done from the rear then moving frontward to the articulate lane.

Blocking:

Blocking intersections is a risky and ofttimes dangerous do that is illegal in almost cases. Yet, an exception is an escorted ride. If you cake, review the post-obit safety precautions.

  • Route Captains should wear a brightly colored prophylactic vest to be more visible.
  • Turn headlights toward oncoming traffic when blocking, and use 4-way flashers.
  • Urge riders to tighten upwards and move every bit rapidly as possible through blocked intersections.
  • Have a process for getting Route Captains to the forepart from the rear.
  • Road Captains should always be chosen from more experienced riders in a group.
  • Rear Road Captains should pull out and block the lane before a grouping lane change occurs. When a lane change is signaled, do non move until the rider in front of yous moves.
  • The grouping should know who is blocking and caravan vehicles should never block unless asked by the Ride Captain.
